Rock Lake Joint Committee:
Next meeting will be at City Hall on Tuesday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m.
Committee is considering a long-range plan for the lake. It was suggested that the plan include an educational program and some of the goals of RLIA. The committee will be looking for input to the plan and it was suggested that RLIA should have a voice.
Signs will be installed at the boat landings advising boaters of the changes in lake rules.
Terms of Mike Orcutt and Pete expire in 2004 and Stan's expires in 2005
"Making Waves": Johanna asked for volunteers for writing articles. She suggested a piece on the long-range plans for the lake.
Old Business
Eurasian water milfoil: There may be items of business at WAL that would provide some insight to removal or preventing the increase of the weed. Weevils have been useful in slowing the growth of milfoil and perhaps here would be information at WAL about availability of weevils for purchase.
Since one of the growth factors of weeds in the lake involves fertilizers, Pete suggested that we make people aware of the fact that we don't need phosphorus on our lawns and this could be a focus in an article in "Making Waves". It was Patricia's suggestion that we test our own lawns for phosphorus.
Fishing: Karl said he still intends to write an article on fishing.
New Business
Boy Scout Project: At a meeting in Cambridge it was suggested that the Scouts might use diving for detection of zebra mussels in Rock Lake and Lake Ripley as part of an Adopt-A-Lake project
Membership Mailing: Waiting for envelopes to send to the whole watershed.
Festival Days: Discussion involved the possibility of a RLIA presence at Lake Mills Festival Days. Suggestions included participation in the parade, a booth or table and selling t-shirts or hats. Board members were asked to consider ideas for the next meeting.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
Next Meeting
Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14, at 7:00 p.m.
