April Minutes 2005

Called to order: Meeting called to order at 7:10-Quorum was not present

  .Mailing list of brochure needs to be updated-missed Patricia and Larry

  .Need to call Leader and get list of current mailings and cross reference to our 2004 mailing list. Milt advised that the committee will be meeting soon. He had to leave after this report was given for another commitment.

 
Annual Meeting-Town of Lake Mills-Pete

  .Four in attendance

  .Pete presented the Rock Lake Long Range Planning report. Ed Grunden warned that the development north of the lake would increase boating activity. ie, price of housing equates to the affordability of owning a boat.

  .Need to get the city to adapt the recent revision to Jefferson County Zoning Ordinances.

  .Tabled any recommendations on motorized vehicles on the ice until results of the survey have been tabulated.

 
In addition Pete also reported-

  .The city will be closing the Mill Pond launch site

because of the building of the new Fire Dept.

  .Lake level recording will be an ongoing process.

  .Discussed the issue of non-phosphorous fertilizers being used in the water shed.

    .Pat brought info on sampling lawn soil.

    .Stan presented a copy of the Town of Waterford's ordinances.

     .Agreement on the need to collect information on soil testing, we must get knowledgeable and have regular press releases for the general public. We also need to keep the issue of non-phosphorous fertilizers on our agenda.

     .Pat reported that Melissa will be asking for financial support from the state to help educate the public.

     Pat reported that it cost $12 per sample to have your lawn sample tested. She also stated that soil testing for farms versus lawns is very different.

     .Pat will get a copy of Dane County's Lake and Watershed Commission.

 
 
Long Range Plan for Rock Lake

  .Pat hopes to have the final results from the survey at the May meeting.

  .Glen has been keeping hard data on debris clogging the dam which indicates that the debris was not being removed at 7:00 a.m. each day as was stated by Steve Wilkie. There is a need for 3 people  to share this responsibility  with Glen to keep the dam's screen clear.

  .We have been informed that the Fish Hatchery ponds have inadequate excess capacity to assist in relieving high water levels on Rock Lake.

  There is a possibility for funding for storm water/utility upgrades and management plans. It may also be possible to get a grant for developing plans.

 
Adopt-A-Lake

  .Clean- up is scheduled  for May 14 at 10:00 a.m.

RLIA should be charged for food and gloves for the clean up volunteers.
